Today we read Lin Yi’s Lantern during our Summer Reading Meet-up. This heartwarming story shows the rewards of putting others first, and includes educational notes at the end about the Chinese moon festival, life in rural China, and the legend of the moon fairy.
It was great to see friends we haven’t see much this summer, one of whom is a classmate of my son’s who is learning Mandarin at the G.L.O.B.E Academy, a language immersion charter school. He knew just how to make the lantern and the name prononciations were already familiar to him!
One of the great things about Barefoot Books is that so many include instructions for a craft that supports the book. This is a wonderful way to truly experience the books!
All we needed was paper, glue, and crayons! Such Fun!
